Vision.  Compassion.  Integrity.  Experience.

Dr. Scott Berkowitz has always been devoted to the people -- both the patients he's cared for as a cardiologist as well as through the programs he's built as senior medical director.  After years of experience working at Johns Hopkins, in government and locally, to make positive change in the lives of families and seniors, Dr. Berkowitz is now hoping to apply what he's learned to public service as a member of the Howard County Democratic Central Committee. It’s his dedication, passion, and deep belief that we can do better for our community that drives this fight for change. Explore the site to learn more about Dr. Berkowitz and why he is running.

February 23, 2018

I am running to serve on the Democratic Central Committee for Howard County, Maryland because I want to help move our party and the community forward.  The stakes have never been higher, and the voice of local government must be loud and clear at this critical time.

We must stand firmly behind our values of striving for equity, compassion, and embracing diversity.  Our schools need adequate investments for our children to thrive, and like our community, they must be safe and secure. All in our community should have access to quality healthcare and local health services.  Finally, we need to foster an inclusive community.

You should elect me to serve on the Committee because I have experience advancing big ideas. The programs I have helped to create as the Senior Medical Director for Accountable Care for Johns Hopkins Medicine, and as a cardiologist on the Johns Hopkins University faculty, have touched tens of thousands of Marylanders, particularly those with the greatest needs.  Johns Hopkins Community Health Partnership (J-CHiP) as well as the Johns Hopkins Medicine Alliance for Patients (JMAP) are two such examples, and these efforts have benefited from collaborative public-private partnerships.  Overall, my experiences in program development have spanned local, state and federal levels.

I’d respectfully ask for the privilege to represent you. As a Howard County dad with three young children in our schools, as a coach on the Soccer Association of Columbia soccer fields, as a Columbia Democratic Club board member, and an active participant in the local Jewish community, I appreciate the challenges we face and will be focused on solutions.

And so, please vote for me on June 26th in the Maryland Democratic Primary (and register if you have not already done so).
